| Tom Cat Blake a été guitariste du regretté harmoniciste américain Rock Bottom, aux côtés duquel il a enregistré 6 albums. C'est au cours d'une tournée européenne avec le groupe de Bottom, que Tom Cat a décidé de rester s'établir sur le vieux continent, et plus précisément à quelques encablures de Besançon, en Franche-Comté.
C'est peu de temps après cette installation qu'il enregistre enfin son premier album sous son nom, qui viendra donc illustrer une carrière solo qui l'amène à tourner dans les bars et petites salles de l'Est de la France.
Le disque reprend pour moitié des sessions faites en Floride, et pour l'autre moitié des titres faits pour l'occasion en Belgique.
Ce disque, qui sonne très années 50, est à l'image du personnage, fabuleux musicien et chanteur, aussi polyvalent que doué, et riche d'une culture musicale à toute épreuve.
Du swing west coast en bonne et due forme ("King Freddie Swing", "Strollin'with Bone", "a Bird in the Hand", "Caught in a Web of Love"), de la ballade jazzy ("Heart as Cold as Ice", "I've Been Wondering"), du riff bien saignant à la Howlin'Wolf ("So Glad"), du rock ("Scratch'n'Sniff"), sans oublier quelques pistes acoustiques en duo avec Roy Book Binder ("She did you a Favor") ou avec Henry Townsend -qui fut par ailleurs le professeur de guitare de Blake, excusez du peu- ("Biddle Street Blues"), ce disque est une merveille, que dis-je, un joyaux.
Excellente qualité d'enregistrement, aucune mauvaise piste, voici ce qu'on appelle un parcours sans fautes.
Rajoutez en fin de CD une reprise country de Hank Williams (Blake aime répéter qu'il sait jouer n'importe quel titre de Williams dans n'importe quelle tonalité), et vous aurez compris que Tom Cat Blake est un grand, un très grand même, à qui il ne manque que le succès et surtout la renommée qui lui font défaut.
Personnage à forte personnalité, jamais il ne joue sur scène 2 fois un titre de la même façon.
